Exciting news about echolink for the club

Calling CQ CQ CQ

Well the EchoLink node 899472 is up and running under the call W8DYY-R. For now Steve N8DNG has it running through the 145.330 repeater. He can change it so it can match the net repeaters so those on the road can check in via EchoLink to the Monday night net with there HT, cell phones, tablets, or laptops. He has to send along the codes to Jay if it locks up so he can remotely turn it off. Right now only one person at a time can access it for now but that is only temporary until all the bugs are worked out. Thanks Steve for getting us up and running.

Here is what the club is purchasing as a replacement

Jack has order from R&L Electronics the above items for replacement of our existing  system along with new rotor wire. It should be here next week some time. So expect a call out for an antenna party sometime the week after. Maybe it could be done on October 4th before the meeting that way we would have the bodies needed to do the work and a brief in-service afterwards. Thanks for getting this ordered Jack.

Thursdays antenna work

Well Jack KM8N and Sam WA8VIW and the antenna crew were at it again this week. They installed the 440 Side-Arm extension on the old tower. And a fine job they did. The range of the 440 is all the way down to the GE plant that Jay N8IPO works at and Jack KM8N had it all the way up to 25A off 75 north. That’s as good if not better than the 146 repeater. Thanks to everyone involved Thursday in getting this done.

While on the scene with the lift truck the rotor on the main tower was checked the upper bell and brake are warn out. After 60 years of service it may be time to consider a new one. Maybe a TailTwister but that will be a discussion for the meeting.

Next is the cabinet that Jack has to house the 440 repeater in it should provide enough warmth to keep the repeater above 32 degrees in the winter.

So with all that said hope to see you at the meeting for these important discussions. Hopefully an update on the 80 meter antenna the city is helping us with.
